The V festival is another of the growing trend of dual location events, in the manner of the sister events in Reading and Leeds, sharing the same lineup over 2 venues at Hylands Park in Chelmsford, Essex and Weston Park, Staffordshire to maximise both the available audience and, of course, the potential revenue.
The V Festival first took place back in 1996 and takes it's name from primary sponsor Virgin, who provided the backing for an event that was actually originally the brainchild of Pulp frontman and noted hipster Jarvis Cocker, who it seems just liked the idea of playing in 2 different outdoor venues on consecutive days. The rest, as they say, is history.
As the name and associated links suggests the V festival is somewhat more commercial in nature than many older, more traditional festivals and has attracted some criticism for this, not least the high prices charged on site, but that does seem to be the way the festival industry is moving these days, so I'm guessing that as long as they keep providing top acts in their lineup they'll continue to sell out their tickets and enjoy success.
The V festival lineup for 2016 to follow.
The V Festival has had a good range of streaming coverage in previous years, both online and on the television (most recently on Channel 4 and the 4 Music channel).
This year the broadcast partner is MTV and they don't appear to be offering a live stream, although it is claimed there will be highlights from the festival on their channels.
Highlights from the main sets should also be available via the official Youtube channel.
In terms of live streaming the best we've been able to find thus far is this live blog but we'll keep checking as the event gets closer.
Update: There is also live online coverage promised of the main headline sets on Sunday evening via Virgin Media.
If you're planning on being at either location for the V festival and don't much fancy the camping there are plenty of local hotels and bed and breakfast guest houses to choose from. You can check availability and make reservations for local hotels here.
