TOP LIVE EVENTS
There are some locations that just seem ideal to host a music event, and I would have to place San Francisco's Golden Gate Park firmly into this category. I've yet to visit SF in person, but it is very much on the bucket list, and if I could coincide a visit to match up with the weekend of the Outside Lands Music and Arts (and beer, food and wine!) festival then I would be fairly well content.
Taking place over a 3 day weekend, this is another giant festival event, ideally located close to the large urban area, and with a summer date that in this part of California just about guarantees good weather. Taking place each year since 2008, Outside Lands continues to grow in size year on year and this year is expected to break the 200,000 number for total visitors over the 3 days.
One area in which this festival excels, and which for me only adds to the appeal, is environmental awareness, and the organisers pride themselves on making the vent as eco-friendly as possible, with solar power, refillable water supplies, recycling and bike valet facilities all provided. California is also probably the vegan food capital of the United States, so there's also a better than even chance that I would also be able to find something decent to eat!
2017 lineup details to follow.
Outside Lands has been providing a live stream on and off for several years now, but finally seems to have settled on there being reliable live coverage.
You can watch this year's festival, provided by none other than AOL would you believe, live here:
There is also an official Outside Lands Youtube channel, where you can catch all the latest lineup details, plus videos from previous years' festivals:
Despite the name suggesting otherwise the Outside Lands festival site doesn't actually include a campground so if you're visiting from outside the area you'll need to find a local hotel, hostel of guesthouse, although their are also some campsites in the area. You can check availability and make reservations for local hotels here.
